So I started my own business about 3 1/2 months ago after working in a large medical system for most of my career. I will admit, the decision to leave was not easy for me. I loved my co-workers, I had a full list of wonderful patients, I had the respect of the doctors who refer patients to me and the pelvic floor clinic which I helped get off the ground was getting busier every week.
I had never dreamed of having my own business. I have never been a risk-taker. The idea of being in charge of my own accounting, taxes, insurance, and technical needs would send my heart racing. I just knew that as long as I stayed where I was, I would be limited by the number of people I could help. When you work for a big institution you can’t just pitch an idea and have it implemented. I created several presentations about what I do and who I can help but never was given the opportunity to present them to anyone.
Having my own business has allowed me to write and speak and to reach more than one person at a time. I am able to think outside the box and deliver care in new ways through Telehealth and concierge practices. I am creating at home programs specific to common problems so anyone can access them and treat themselves at home. I’m learning to be brave and not allow self-doubt to keep me from living my dream.
